“I Love Betty La Fea”
First of all, this is basically the Tagalog version of “Ugly Betty” which has had spin-offs in however many countries.
I know this is supposed to be something “empowering” to the everyday person, but really I find it sort of belittling.
The theme song contains a line in Tagalog that says that basically says that external beauty stops there - while I understand the intention, I frankly don’t like it. It gives the impression that all good-looking people are all unkind and unintelligent.
I don’t see anything wrong with beauty as long as the person doesn’t overdo it - it’s empowering to see smart, compassionate women who take care of themselves externally as well.
